From "Work of Faith Labor of Love" by Katherine Brown and Ray Stedman
Near the sleeping waters of Lake Whatcom the sentinel firs reach tall into the sky.
Their strength comes from the nutruring earth, but their yearning is clearly for the
heavens above. No symbol could be more appropriate for the men and women whose
spiritual strength and towering faith have built, through the decades, the camp and
conference ministry known widely as The Firs.
This is not the usual story of endless programs, forceful (or fanciful) speakers,
or great glowing monuments of spirituual ecstasy. It is rather, the story of quietly
tested faith, of dawning certainty emerging from sometimes obscure biblical texts,
of unyielding strength in unequal battles, of wisdom garnered from the testing of years.
